Collection contains Edward C. Montgomery's subject files (mainly concerning his work for the National Transportation Safety Board), which contain correspondence, clippings, notes, government documents, and miscellaneous printed materials. Collection also contains Montgomery's notebooks, Montgomery's training materials from throughout his professional career (including those from Capital Airlines, United Airlines, and the National Transportation Safety Board), a few photographs of an unidentified aircraft accident investigation, reports (a few written by or contributed to by Montgomery), and a few audio cassettes of mid 1970s aircraft accident radio transmissions. Aircraft flight manuals, airline flight manuals (including some from Capital Airlines and United Airlines), government documents (including a number of National Transportation Safety Board aircraft accident reports), clippings, miscellaneous printed materials, and miscellaneous periodicals are in this collection as well.

Edward C. Montgomery was an airline pilot and federal aviation official during the twentieth century. A 1941 graduate of the University of Wyoming, Montgomery learned to fly at Brees Field in Laramie, Wyoming, then served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. After the war, he worked as an airline pilot for twenty five years, flying for Capital Airlines and United Airlines.
